Do I need a licence to fly a drone commercially in South Africa?
Yes. Any drone flight for reward or in the course of business falls under SACAA regulations. The pilot needs a Remote Pilot Licence (RPL) and the operating business needs an RPAS Operator Certificate (ROC). Flying a farm drone for your own commercial crop work counts.
Do I need a licence to spray my own lands with an Agras?
Agricultural spraying is commercial operation of a remotely piloted aircraft, so the RPL and ROC requirements apply, and there are additional considerations around the chemicals you apply. We take farms through the whole process rather than leaving you to read the regs.
How long does it take to get RPAS licensed in South Africa?
It depends on training availability and how quickly the SACAA processes the paperwork, so we do not promise a date. What we can do is get the sequence right the first time, which is where most of the lost months usually go.
